Permits & placement
On a private driveway in Sarasota you generally will not need a permit. Whether your address is inside City of Sarasota limits or in unincorporated Sarasota County changes who handles a street permit. The City of Sarasota requires a right-of-way permit from the City Engineer for any dumpster in the street, an alley, or a public parking space (with a Dec 1–Apr 30 peak-season surcharge); unincorporated Sarasota County requires a county right-of-way use permit for street or swale placement. Keep it on the driveway and it is usually a non-issue — and we will point you to the right office either way.
